Why am I telling you this, well, because I found the perfect solution to recreating these perfect trousers!
Working in the fabric store I help out at, I met the owner of Sunu Mode (Sunu Fashions), Mr. Gamou, and we got to chatting about pattern making, clothing construction and the likes. He grew up in a sewing & pattern drafting home, and has learned this art from a young age. He is amazingly talented, and if you have a chance to pop into his store Sunu Mode - Kolonnenstr. 44, 10829 Berlin Schöneberg, do!
Get chatting to him, he is great, and interesting to talk to. But be sure to have a browse through the rack of things he has created to see the extent of his talent!
Anyway, on the day we were chatting at Volksfaden, I mentioned that I would love to be able to recreate pieces of clothing that I already own, that I know fit me well. No problem he said, he would be willing to make me the pattern from my existing clothing!
So, the item I have started with…. my perfect linen trousers!
He had the pattern ready for me in a few days, and gave me some pointers to sewing them up, and I got cracking. This was my first time sewing a fly zip and now I don't know why I was ever worried about this. It could not be simpler.
At this point, I have made 3 pairs of these trousers, and I feel the same adoration for each pair as I did the original! They fit perfectly! He has recreated the pattern 100%, including the seam allowance I requested! How is that for amazing service?!
Here is one pair (excuse the selfie - hubby was away!)…
fabric bought here - a nice linen/ cotton blend.
No more buying patterns, franken-patterning them to fit you, only to discover they are not as great on you as they were on the model on the pattern packet.
Next up is a pair of blue jeans. These I have been wearing for the past 15 years at least! They are amazing jeans, and my favorites by far. I have, sadly, worn them out in places, so Mr. Gamou is helping me recreate them by making me an exact replica of the pattern! Actually, he is sewing the first pair for me, and he will give me the pattern too.
Once we have moved, I know for sure I will be posting items to him!
My little heart is so happy to have met this talented man!
Go on, give it a try - make your heart sing too.
